DIY wooden educational STEM kit “Hydraulic Excavator”. The assembled model is operated manually using a water-pressure-powered hydraulic system. This kit helps children learn the basic principles of hydraulics, engineering mechanics, and robotics in the simplest and most engaging way.
Features:
This is a construction kit, toy, and educational tool in one. This fun set has great educational value, as it transforms complex physics theories into a hands-on, game-like learning experience.
The model works without electricity or batteries: all movement is generated solely by the force of water pressure.
During assembly, children develop fine motor skills and precision, while testing the model helps reinforce scientific concepts. It is perfect for curious minds, combining creativity with science while encouraging problem-solving and imaginative play.
Children can experiment, for example, by using different colored water (to see which syringe controls which function) or modifying the structure so it can lift heavier objects.
Made from high-quality, non-toxic wood. The wooden parts are smooth and durable, and they can be varnished or painted in your child’s favorite colors. The stable construction is suitable for both play and educational activities.
Easy assembly: simple and clear instructions allow children to assemble the toy with minimal adult supervision, making the kit suitable for independent work or activities together with parents.
STEM (Science + Technology + Engineering + Mathematics) is an educational approach that integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into a unified learning model to prepare the younger generation for the rapidly developing world of technology.
This is an excellent gift choice, as well as a useful kit for schools and educational institutions where simple, reliable, and clearly functioning teaching models are needed.
Working principle:
The model has four control syringes connected by flexible tubes to working syringes mounted on the excavator arm. The control syringes are fixed to the base, and by pressing them the arm is controlled. The working syringes are installed on the excavator boom mechanism; they move under pressure and perform the action.
The syringe system controls the following model movements: lifting/lowering the boom, movement of the secondary arm, opening/closing the bucket, and rotating the structure.
Pascal’s Law: Children can practically observe how liquid in a closed system transmits pressure equally in all directions. They learn that force applied at one point (the control syringe) can perform work at another point (moving the excavator arm).
Mechanical advantage: By constructing levers, children learn how the length and position of joints affect movement range and force.
Energy transfer: They understand how mechanical energy (pressing the syringe piston) is converted into hydraulic energy and then back into mechanical motion.
Hydraulic transmission: When the child pushes or pulls the piston of a control syringe, water transfers pressure through the tubes to the corresponding syringe on the arm.
Mechanical movement: Water pressure forces the working syringe to extend or retract, which in turn moves the excavator parts: raises the arm, bends the bucket, or rotates the whole structure.
This kit provides a great opportunity to discuss alternative energy sources. The model demonstrates how complex mechanisms can operate without electricity or chemical batteries, using only the laws of physics.
Educational value: basics of physics and engineering.
Purpose: learning at home, in the classroom, and for project-based activities.
